{"id":542,"date":"2012-02-13T10:37:08","date_gmt":"2012-02-13T17:37:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libernetics.com\/?p=542"},"modified":"2012-04-23T19:17:29","modified_gmt":"2012-04-24T02:17:29","slug":"crossfit-as-a-sport-some-notes-and-comments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libernetics.com\/?p=542","title":{"rendered":"Crossfit as a sport: some notes and comments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went to the <a title=\"Crossfit Sac Sacramento Throwdown\" href=\"http:\/\/crossfiteastsac.typepad.com\/sactown_throwdown\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crossfit Sacramento Throwdown <\/a>over the weekend. \u00a0For those who are not familiar with Crossfit or what a Crossfit event is like, think of it as a combination of high school PE and a road rally. \u00a0Only more extreme. \u00a0A very high level of excitement and unpredictability.<\/p>\n<p>The individual events are\u00a0rigorous. \u00a0Weightlifting, cycling, gymnastics, running, jumping and pulling heavy objects. \u00a0I think of Crossfit as a sport, and you&#8217;ll see what I mean when you watch the video. \u00a0Crossfit lacks the rigid structure that other sports have, but of course that&#8217;s the point. \u00a0What defines Crossfit as a sport is it&#8217;s dynamic quality. The workouts test every possible domain of fitness:\u00a0strength, endurance, agility.<\/p>\n<p><object style=\"height: 390px; width: 640px;\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" classid=\"clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000\" codebase=\"http:\/\/download.macromedia.com\/pub\/shockwave\/cabs\/flash\/swflash.cab#version=6,0,40,0\"><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowScriptAccess\" value=\"always\" \/><param name=\"src\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/WpE6a6bXyd8?version=3&amp;feature=player_detailpage\" \/><param name=\"allowfullscreen\" value=\"true\" \/><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\" \/><embed style=\"height: 390px; width: 640px;\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/WpE6a6bXyd8?version=3&amp;feature=player_detailpage\" allowFullScreen=\"true\" allowScriptAccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" \/><\/object><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s hard work. \u00a0Lots of noise, chaos and physical stress. \u00a0Walking lunges with 95 pounds and 135 pounds, pulling a police cruiser, various kinds of pullups, sandbag thrusters, box jumps, lifting 200 pound stones.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Crossfit East Sacramento\" href=\"http:\/\/crossfiteastsac.typepad.com\/crossfit_east_sacramento\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crossfit East Sacramento <\/a>won the novice division, and the masters division. \u00a0Which is incredible when you consider how many\u00a0athletes\u00a0from various gyms competed. \u00a0We&#8217;ve got some great\u00a0athletes\u00a0right here in Sacramento.<\/p>\n<p>The winning was\u00a0inspiring\u00a0to watch.
