{"id":1537,"date":"2012-05-21T14:36:30","date_gmt":"2012-05-21T21:36:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libernetics.com\/?p=1537"},"modified":"2012-05-21T14:36:30","modified_gmt":"2012-05-21T21:36:30","slug":"crossfit-peak-performance-revisited","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libernetics.com\/?p=1537","title":{"rendered":"Crossfit: peak performance revisited"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The <a title=\"CrossFit NorCal Regionals\" href=\"http:\/\/games.crossfit.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CrossFit NorCal\u00a0Regionals<\/a>\u00a0are over. \u00a0<a title=\"CrossFit East Sacramento\" href=\"http:\/\/crossfiteastsac.typepad.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">CrossFit East Sacramento<\/a>\u00a0came in fifth place. \u00a0They won&#8217;t be going on to the games, but they made sure that those that are going are worthy of the trip. \u00a0That&#8217;s the very best kind of\u00a0competition: the kind that enriches everybody.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not likely to ever make it past the open. \u00a0 But that&#8217;s OK. \u00a0Because achieving\u00a0my peak performance does not\u00a0guarantee that my ability will be superior, or even interesting, to other people. \u00a0I am not particularly concerned with that. \u00a0What I am\u00a0particularly\u00a0concerned with is knowing that I am just as serious about my\u00a0performance\u00a0as the\u00a0\u00a0best Crossfit\u00a0\u00a0athletes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Serious&#8221; means I have the emotional strength and the mental discipline to actually get to a higher level of fitness. \u00a0The question of &#8220;serious&#8221; always comes down to one thing: the ability to find failure. And get past it. \u00a0Wherever\u00a0that leads. \u00a0In practical terms this means getting to\u00a0exhaustion while avoiding\u00a0unnecessary\u00a0injury.<\/p>\n<p>During the first <a title=\"CrossFit 2012 Open WOD 12.1\" href=\"http:\/\/games.crossfit.com\/workouts\/the-open\" target=\"_blank\">Open WOD<\/a> (max burpees in 7 minutes) I felt a sharp pain in my right upper arm. \u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t debilitating, so I\u00a0continued\u00a0and got 74 burpees. \u00a0I didn&#8217;t notice any pain again for a while. \u00a0Then a couple of weeks ago it flared up again while doing burpees.
