{"id":1474,"date":"2012-05-09T18:05:55","date_gmt":"2012-05-10T01:05:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libernetics.com\/?p=1474"},"modified":"2012-05-09T20:11:54","modified_gmt":"2012-05-10T03:11:54","slug":"crossfit-fighting-inertia-and-not-quitting","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libernetics.com\/?p=1474","title":{"rendered":"Crossfit: fighting inertia and not quitting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The other day<\/span><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> I was on Facebook, and noticed a Crossfit Lisabeth <a title=\"Chris Spaeller wins a place at the 2012 CrossFit Games\" href=\"http:\/\/crossfitlisbeth.com\/2012\/05\/07\/speal\/\" target=\"_blank\">blog about Chris Spealler<\/a>.\u00a0 Spealler came from behind and secured a spot at the 2012 Crossfit Games.\u00a0\u00a0 It&#8217;s a big deal because Spealler is a smaller athlete competing with much bigger guys.\u00a0\u00a0 I told myself next time I felt like quitting during a WOD,\u00a0I wouldn&#8217;t.\u00a0 By &#8220;quitting&#8221; I mean running the clock down, giving up and waiting it out.\u00a0 Fighting that kind of inertia is a real challange for me. It robs me of so much opportunity to excel.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">That day\u00a0we had a tough WOD.\u00a0 We had 3 round at 6 minute each of max reps: 10 burpees 5 deadlifts, 10 wall balls 10 toes-to-bar, 10 kb swings 5 box jumps.\u00a0 So 18 minutes max reps with 1 minute between rounds.\u00a0 I used a 145# bar for the dl, a 44# kb, a 12# wall ball, a 24 inch tire for the box jumps.\u00a0 The good news is that particular WOD is something I could do.\u00a0 I had high expectations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">The bad news: my right shoulder gave out at burpee #5.\u00a0 In other words just a few seconds into\u00a0the WOD and I&#8217;m feeling in trouble.\u00a0 My form deteriorated and I was really slow.\u00a0 I got through 4 rounds.\u00a0 Each burpee hurt.\u00a0 The deadlifts were a relief.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">One minute rest, then wallballs and t2b. \u00a0had started with a 20# ball, couldn&#8217;t manage it because of the pain, switched to 12#.\u00a0 At some point I noticed my right\u00a0Achilles tendon was on fire.\u00a0 My t2b was in poor form.\u00a0 By the time I got to the KBs and box jumps I was disappointed and tired.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: small;\">For me a 44# kb is about the edge of my skill set.\u00a0 I\u00a0have used\u00a053# in practice but I&#8217;ve never gone beyond 44# in a WOD.\u00a0 Getting to that 10th swing was a big challange.\u00a0 By the 4th round I was ready to give up.\u00a0 I actually said it: &#8220;I&#8217;m done.&#8221;\u00a0 I was going to quit, with time on the clock.\u00a0 I felt like I had been in a microwave set on &#8220;high&#8221;, like I was going to exploded.\u00a0 I was actually scared.
