{"id":1291,"date":"2012-04-19T18:01:55","date_gmt":"2012-04-20T01:01:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/libernetics.com\/?p=1291"},"modified":"2012-04-19T18:16:09","modified_gmt":"2012-04-20T01:16:09","slug":"crossfit-permission-to-succeed-requires-permission-to-fail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/libernetics.com\/?p=1291","title":{"rendered":"Crossfit: permission to succeed requires permission to fail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The other day at CrossFit East Sacramento we had difficult warm up and WOD. \u00a0 The warm up included the usual\u00a0stretches, plus 5x 200m runs broken up by various drills (inch worm, high kicks, Sampson, etc.) \u00a0I timed my 200m runs just to see my run rate; I went 40, 42, 54, didn&#8217;t time one and ended up with a 43 for the final run. \u00a0My goal would be to run a sub 7 minute mile, so I&#8217;m getting there. Then 10 pullups, 10 push ups and 15 ghd situps. \u00a0Next we did 10 50m sled pushes with 90#. \u00a0We did one push up to the 50m cone, our partner pushed back while the other person walked back. \u00a0Then back again. It was tough.<\/p>\n<p>I was beat up before we even got to the WOD. \u00a0Which was 5 pullups, 5 pushups, and 10 air squats max rounds for 8 minutes. \u00a0Like a mini-Cindy. \u00a0Now this WOD plays to all my\u00a0strengths\u00a0(such as they are): upper\u00a0body. \u00a0I would expect to get at least 10, maybe 12 rounds.<\/p>\n<p>I settled for 8. \u00a0Which pretty much sums it up. \u00a0I just could not get motivated. \u00a0The sled pull apparently broke my resolve. \u00a0My first round took about 44 seconds. \u00a0Little by little I slowed down, and I have to say I just didn&#8217;t care enough to go faster. \u00a0Towards the end I actually slowed down to avoid another round.<\/p>\n<p>Given the WOD had no safety issues to speak of, and pullups and pushups are something I do regularly and well, I should have gone all out. \u00a0What&#8217;s the hold up I ask myself? \u00a0Well I think I just didn&#8217;t want to put up with failing. \u00a0Which is another way of saying I lowered the intensity because I was mentally\u00a0exhausted.<\/p>\n<p>But that would have been the time to break through. \u00a0A golden opportunity. \u00a0But if you don&#8217;t give yourself permission to
